From DIY project to market leader
We make outdoor kitchens from solid Douglas fir in Almelo. No middlemen, no container from abroad: we saw, plane and assemble them ourselves.
Sometimes the best ideas just happen in his own back garden
Not in a boardroom, but out of frustration. That's how Buitenkeukendeal began, in the summer of 2010.
The search that led nowhere
Our founder was looking for the ultimate outdoor kitchen: a unit with everything, including a built-in barbecue, fridge and a climate cabinet for the wine. What he had in mind was nowhere to be found.
So he decided to build it himself. Wood, screws, fridges and a kamado were ordered, and for three weeks he sawed and hammered in the evenings, alongside a full-time job. The verdict at home? "Far too clunky, far too big, doesn't fit in the garden. It has to go."
"It's good stuff"
The kitchen went on Marktplaats. A week later it turned out not one kitchen had been sold, but three straight away. "Then you'll have to make two more."
There wasn't much room for it at home, but his father-in-law came to the rescue: "Just make it here in the back garden, it's good stuff." Within three months it had got so out of hand that he quit his steady job. The sole proprietorship Buitenkeukendeal was born.
A 52 m² unit in Vroomshoop
Production moved to a modest rented building in Vroomshoop. To keep quality in our own hands, we immediately started exploring sourcing from China.
The first container, and online
When the very first container arrived, we were already bursting at the seams and rented the unit next door as well. That same year Buitenkeukendeal.nl went live, with standard models you can easily order online. A bull's-eye.
500 m² at Bedrijvenpark Twente
Demand grew explosively. We moved to a 500 m² building, hired our first staff and grew like wildfire.
A private company and 1200 m² in Vriezenveen
That space became too small too. The sole proprietorship became a private company and we moved to Bovenlandweg 14 in Vriezenveen: 1200 m² of production space with a huge outdoor area.
We refined the product, expanded the materials and built our own complete IT system that seamlessly connects webshop, complaints handling, production and stock.
75% growth and our own software house
Another remarkable growth of 75%. To keep our technological lead, we opened our own software house in India.
Slachthuiskade 36, Almelo
A brand-new building in a prime location, with a high-end showroom. We now produce our stone worktops in-house, with high-tech machinery: from waterjet cutters and CNC cross-cut saws to a fully automatic packing robot.
Direct from the factory
Suppliers could no longer keep up with demand, so we took full control ourselves. We now buy directly from factories worldwide and keep a grip on the whole chain.
Ready for Europe
From a rejected DIY project to a high-tech manufacturer with its own software department. Buitenkeukendeal is market leader in the Netherlands, and fully ready for the next step: conquering Europe.
From plank to kitchen, under one roof
The wood arrives on a pallet and leaves as a complete kitchen. Sawing, planing, staining, fitting appliances and assembling: it all happens here. That's why we can still make a size that isn't on the list.
Wood that lasts a lifetime
Douglas fir is durable by nature: it needs no treatment to stand outside. Touch it up once a year and a kitchen like this will last for decades. That's the difference with a kitchen you throw out after five years.
